There are numerous historic hotels located throughout the United States. They are a true gem for travelers to stay at, mostly due to their one-of-a-kind history and often interesting design. The following historic hotels are some of the most well-known ones in the country.

Hotel del Coronado In San Diego

This historic hotel is conveniently located on the beach. It first opened in 1888 and has had a lot of famous guests like presidents and celebrities stay at it. Some people think that this hotel is actually haunted by a guest named Kate Morgan that died at the hotel years ago. Nevertheless, it doesn’t keep tourists from staying at this seaside resort.

Waldorf Astoria In New York City

This iconic historic hotel has been featured in countless movies and is a landmark of New York City. It first opened in 1931 and, at the time, it was the largest and tallest hotel in the world. Don’t let the age of this hotel fool you, however, because its accommodations are quite lavish. Despite the numerous amounts of hotels available in New York City, the Waldorf Astoria remains one of the most sought-after locations for travelers to stay at.

Park Inn Hotel In Mason City

The history of this hotel is quite unique. It first opened in 1910 but was remodeled in 1926 and divided into apartments. Unfortunately, the structure didn’t hold up very well and it turned into a complete disaster. Residents wanted to save the hotel and bring it back to its former glory so they raised $18.5 million to restore it. It reopened in 2011 and now features rooms that are modernized with flat-screen TVs and lavish linens. The art glass and tiles have been restored along with one of the key features of the hotel, the 13-foot high ceilinged Skylight room.

Union Station In Nashville

First opened in 1900, this hotel was originally a train station. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977 but closed soon after in 1979. In the late 80s, it became a hotel but had to undergo a massive $11 million renovation in 2007. Despite the renovation, much of the original structure remains the same, such as the lobby sculptures and clocks. Also notable for this hotel are the custom furnishings and 32-foot-high ceilings in some of the rooms. Overall, the hotel has a contemporary, clean feel, with glimpses of its train station past scattered around the hotel in subtle ways.

Other Historic hotels worth visiting include the Omni Homestead Resort built in 1766 located in Hot Springs, Virginia; Concord’s Colonial Inn Boston built in 1716; Broadmoor in Colorado Springs which was built in 1918; the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville built in 1910; the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond Virginia in 1895 and the Mohonk Mountain House New York built in 1869.
