With the return of riverboat cruises to Baton Rouge comes a plethora of activities to enjoy on this historic city’s riverfront. Both the cruises and Riverfront Plaza will surely make each tourist itch to come back. Here are some of the things to do and see while in this city.

Where To Eat And Shop
For any riverboat tourist spending a day in Baton Rouge, the Main Street Market is the place to go for shopping, eating, and souvenirs. Featuring locally owned restaurants, specialty shops, and even a farmer’s market, Main Street Market is open to the public Monday through Friday from 7am to 3 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm It’s basically a one stop shopping experience for anything you want to eat, drink or purchase to take home with you. It’s best to visit the market in the morning, if you can, before it gets too hot.

What To See And Do
If it’s the arts you are looking for, the Louisiana Art and Science Museum is located right on the river and has special events and exhibits quite frequently. You can expect to spend an hour or two here. The Old State Capitol Museum is a favorite for history and architecture lovers, with beautiful stained glass windows and walls that have withstood the test of time for 165 years. In fact, the old building is considered an architectural treasure, and hosts many special events and even weddings underneath its kaleidoscope of colorful glass windows. Tourists are often amazed at how well the museum has withstood numerous natural disasters throughout the years. Upon visiting here, make sure you have plenty of room on your phone or camera as you will probably want to take a lot of pictures.

Some other notable things to see in Baton Rouge are the LSU Museum of Arts and LSU Rural Life Museum. By the end of this year there will have been around 72 different stops for riverboats throughout the city. Officials are working to increase this number and bring more tourists in by improving the Riverfront Plaza. They are adding shade structures and beautiful landscaping at the docks. This ensures an aesthetically pleasing stroll to and from each destination for tourists and citizens alike. One can never be bored in Baton Rouge, or the Red Stick, and the new and improved riverboat experiences available for both tourists and locals.
