With Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday this year, it will be a great weekend to plan a romantic getaway. We’ve been talking about romantic vacation destinations in various areas of the country, and today’s topic is romance in the midwest. If you live in one of the midwestern states or plan on visiting this region around Valentine’s Day, here are some love-inspired, romantic destinations to check out with your sweetie:

  • Vrooman Mansion, Bloomington, Illinois:  Who wouldn’t want to stay in an 1869 mansion on Valentine’s Day weekend? A popular getaway for Eleanor Roosevelt and Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan, the Vrooman offers several options for a romantic weekend away, including a “Treat Her,” “Treat Him,” and “Couples Retreat” packages. The food is out of this world, too! This location has been featured in Food & Wine Magazine as well as Midwest Living.

  • Garden House Bed and Breakfast, Rocky Mount, Missouri:  Voted as The Best Bed and Breakfast in the Midwest by Midwest Living Magazine, you won’t go wrong if you make reservations at the Garden House. If the whirlpool rooms, private balconies and fine linens and china don’t exude enough romance for you, then the views of Lake Ozark in the middle of the winter surely will.

  • Sundara Inn and Spa, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin:  Sundara is the Sanskrit word for beautiful, and you will find beauty around every corner as you explore the Inn and Spa. Hot tubs, steam rooms and heated towels will keep you and your beloved nice and warm on chilly days, and you can enjoy massages and various spa treatments a deux. There are special packages available through February, so be sure to inquire when you call.

  • Round Barn Farm Bed and Breakfast and Bread, Red Wing, Minnesota: This old farmhouse is replete with charm and romance, down to the winery and distillery, which is housed in an old Amish round barn, giving the property its name. It’s a bed and breakfast, as well as a bakery, and the bed and breakfast was built in 1861. Each room has a jacuzzi or massage tub, and you’ll be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the 35 acres of fields and woods on the property.

Romance is in the air this time of year! What better time to plan a vacation getaway for two in the Midwestern United States?
