The Keukenhof Spring Gardens in the Netherlands is the best known spring garden in the world. Located between Amsterdam and Hague, it covers over 80 acres with over 7 million hand-planted flower bulbs making it the largest bulb park in the world. During this 2 month span of gorgeous hues, the garden is open for the public to enjoy its effervescent tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, orchids, lilies, and narcissus complemented with other shrubs and perennials. This big hype all starts with the tulips. Tulips have been rooted in the heart of Holland since 1590 when the tulip was the national emblem for the Netherlands. As soon as the madness began, it never ended.
The splendour of the tulips and gardens attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to Keukenhof every year. In 2012, the gardens will reopen to the public starting March 22nd through May 20th. There will be a flower parade on April 21st that begins in Noordwijk to Harlem and passes Keukenhof later that afternoon led across the Keukenhof Corso Boulevard by a musical procession. Don’t miss out this year!
