Ultimate Travel Experiences for Star Wars Fans

Star Wars fans can take part in a variety of memorable experiences. You don’t just have to go to the movie theatre to get your Star Wars fix. These are some of the ultimate travel experiences for Star Wars fans.

  • Luke Skywalker’s Igloo Home

Located near the dried up lake of Chott El Jerid, the craters that surround the igloo home are actually manmade. What’s interesting is that it was previously dismantled, but then rebuilt for Attack of the Clones. After visiting there, fans can then go to the site of the Dune Sea, La Grande Dune and then onto the set of Mos Espa which is where Anakin was first discovered as a slave at a young age.

  • Villa del Balbianello

Located in Lenno, Italy, this location is where Padme and Anakin go into hiding in Attack of the Clones. It’s actually a popular location for weddings. The tip of it is only reachable by boat so it’s fairly secluded. A popular spot to visit is the balcony where Padme and Anakin kissed in the movie. (Villa is in the background of our banner)

  • Redwood National And State Parks

You don’t have to leave the U.S. to visit one of the places where scenes from Star Wars were filmed. Located in California, Redwood National and State Parks is where the home of the Ewoks, Endor, was filmed.

  • Tikal National Park Guatemala

The Mayan ruins in this park in Guatemala were used for the outpost of the Rebel Alliance’s Massassi. It was also used in a few other shots for its unique jungle canopy.

  • Mount Etna Sicily

Mount Etna was sort of a backdrop used is Revenge of the Sith. This Italian volcano was part of some unique plate photography that created a fiery battle scene between Anakin and Obi-Wan.

  • Skellig Michael Ireland

Explore the spectacular scenery of the real Ring of Kerry and unearth the true secrets of the wild Skellig Islands which was used in Episode VII and Episode VIII. Once you arrive at Portmagee, the gateway to the Skellig Islands, you can go by boat around Skelling Michael and Skelling Beag Island. Skellig Michael also features birdlife in abundance – puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes to name a few all call these islands home throughout the year. You may also just encounter whales, dolphins, sunfish and even basking sharks roaming the surrounding waters. You can take the Eco and Star Wars Specialist tour to the Skelligs from $52.77 pp .  The location scouts for Star Wars: The Last Jedi loved the Wild Atlantic Way and chose locations from Cork and Kerry to Clare and Donegal to appear as otherworldly locations in the Star Wars franchise. While in the region visit Blarney Castle and the port of Cobh where the famous ship Titanic set sail in 1912.

  • Star Wars Themed Jets

If you want to include a unique flight experience as part of your Star Wars journeys, check out Nippon Airways themed jets. They are painted to look like the droid BB-8.  Flights typically will fly to Osaka, Singapore, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Washington and New York. While onboard, guests can enjoy paper cups and napkins that have a Star Wars theme as well as headrest covers that feature images that have been inspired by Star Wars movies.

  • Visit Dubrovnik Croatia
This amazing city is famous for having the best-preserved medieval walled cities in the world.  Take movie tour of the ancient city, where parts of the Last Jedi was filmed. Start at the North Wall, and stroll down Stradun, the main street in the old town of Dubrovnik. Then adventure through the Placa Ulica, one of the central plazas in Dubrovnik’s Old Town and finish off at the famous Minčeta Tower. You can purchase a Star Wars Dubovnik tour for as little as $28.18 pp

From January through April 2018, Disney will offer Star Wars day on select 7 day Caribbean cruises. There will be Star Wars characters throughout the ship including Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO and Darth Vader, a Star Wars theme show, movie screenings, family trivia, a ship wide scavenger hunt and more.

Not far from San Fransisco you can visit the largest privately owned Star Wars memorabilia museum on the entire planet known as Rancho Obi-Wan.  The 9,000-square-foot museum building was once home to over 20,000 chickens during Petaluma’s egg-producing heyday.  In October, 2011, Rancho Obi-Wan, Inc., was founded as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation to manage the collection. It serves the public through the collection, conservation, exhibition and interpretation of Star Wars memorabilia and artifacts, using the collection to provide meaningful educational, aesthetic, intellectual and cultural experiences to a wide array of audiences and to carry out other charitable and educational activities associated with this goal.  Make sure and book in advance, as tours sell out usually 6 to 8 weeks prior to travel.
