If you’re planning a ski vacation this year, British Columbia is a great place to visit. The region is known for ecotourism and active and adventurous vacation activities. British Columbia is home to the largest ski area in North America, as well as many other ski areas that are well known for being first-class. British Columbia also has some great places for heli-skiing. When you’re planning your trip to southwest Canada, here are a few of the places that you’ll definitely want to check out for skiing in British Columbia.

  • Whistler-Blackcomb. Located in Whistler, British Columbia, this is the prime destination for many ski enthusiasts. Whistler-Blackcomb is the ski resort that is known as the largest in North America. It has close to 40 lifts, better than 200 runs, and more than 8,000 acres of terrain to cover. This very famous resort attracts more than two million people every year, and has been voted a top ski destination consistently for over a decade.
  • Mount Washington. Located in Courtney, British Columbia, this is the number one ski resort of Vancouver Island. In addition to the excellent skiing, this resort is known for the fantastic views it provides. From here you can see the mountain and the ocean as well as islands and lakes. You may have heard of the Mount Washington resort in January of 2011; at the time it received worldwide attention for having the deepest snow pack anywhere in the world.
  • Revelstroke Mountain Resort. If variety is what you’re seeking in a ski destination, Revelstroke fits the bill. The resort offers lift, cat, heli, and backcountry skiing. In fact, Revelstroke is the only resort to offer all of these options from one base. It is also home to the highest lift-service vertical in North America: 5,620 feet.
  • Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Speaking of heli-skiing, the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is one you may want to check out if heli-skiing is your preference. The resort is located near the Rockies, and it is also close to a number of national parks. Kicking Horse is home to the second highest vertical drop in Canada. At Kicking Horse, you’ll want to stay in the Eagle’s Eye Suites that sit more than 7,500 feet above sea level. This vantage point will provide unparalleled views of the local mountain ranges.

While this is really just a smattering of what is available as far as ski resorts in British Columbia, it should provide you with a pretty good jumping off point. British Columbia offers excellent skiing all the way around, and these resorts are some of the best that the area has to offer.
