Best Exercise Friendly Destinations

Exercising and vacationing may not be two words that you think go together. For many of us we resolved to get fit or stay fit in the new year. This means that when going on vacation, we need to be conscious about the choices that we make. Sometimes one of the best ways to recharge is to actually exercise. There are quite a few destinations where you can go that will allow you to be physically active.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
You can relax and stay fit in Rio de Janeiro. There are numerous paths to roller blade on and run. There’s also outdoor exercise stations along Copacabana Beach. If you want to get your competitive juices flowing, you can almost always find a Frisbee or beach volleyball game going on. It does get very hot here so the best time to get a workout in is in the morning.

Moab, Utah
This is a great place to visit for those that are up for an adventure. White water rafting down the Colorado River is popular. Rafting is a great form of exercise as it works those upper body muscles. To get the lower body into shape, mountain biking on one of the many trails in Moab will surely do the trick. There’s everything from 1-2 miles trails for the novices or 15 mile trails for those looking for a more intense workout.  All US National parks offer opportunities for hiking, biking and other outdoor activities.

North Vancouver, Canada
The best place to exercise in North Vancouver is at the Grouse Grind. This mountain has a trail that’s nearly 2 miles long. Not enough of a workout for you? There’s also some stairs, 2,830 of them in fact, that have been referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster”. If you want a different kind of view you can always head over to the Stanley Park Seawall to go on a jog.

Tucson, Arizona
If you are really wanting get into shape, visit Tucson, Arizona. For a good workout Canyon Ranch offers triathlon training. This consists of running trails, pools and a variety of road bikes. The area is also filled with many other adventurous activities. Just don’t forget to pack a good pair of sneakers because you are going to need them!

London, England
There are many ways you can stay fit in London. For instance, British Military Fitness is quite popular. This workout includes doing push-ups every couple of minutes with a drill sergeant barking orders at you and doing team games. Want something more tame? Throughout many of the parks in London individuals can participate in what’s called “Parkrun”. On Saturdays at 9 a.m. participates compete in 5 kilometer runs. Because the runs are short in length, even beginners can participate. It’s a great way to get motivated to work out.

Cruises are a great option to stay fit and you can travel all around the world.  Enjoy complimentary fitness centers, classes including yoga, pilates and indoor cycling.  Many ships also have full course basketball, volleyball and some even have rock climbing walls and rope courses.
