It’s happened to all of us- we’ve been traveling and suddenly hunger strikes. What do you do? Should you wait it out until you can get to a restaurant or run into a convenient store and grab some junk food to keep you satisfied for now? There is another option- bring snacks with you! Depending on where you are going and how long you are traveling there are some good, healthy options that beat the alternative of eating something unhealthy and just temporarily keeping you full despite that there’s no nutritional value in what you are eating.
Nuts
This snack makes a good choice to take on vacation because it’s fairly compact. Nuts don’t squish very easily so you can place them in your luggage without worrying about them being pulverized by your bag’s contents. Nut also are fairly healthy and packed full of protein. This treat is a great alternative to chips because they are salty and crunchy.
Fruits And Veggies
Snacks don’t get much healthier than fruit and veggies. Grapes and apples make great options as they don’t need refrigeration and are easy to eat. Melons and berries are also good options if you store them in a hard container with a lid. When it comes to vegetables, almost nothing is off limits. Travel friendly vegetables include uncooked broccoli, carrot and celery sticks and cherry tomatoes. If you are in a hot environment and worried about your fruits and vegetables remaining good to eat, you can always opt for a healthy alternative liked dried fruits or fruit leathers. For an added treat you can always bring a little bit of peanut butter in a container to dip some of your fruits and veggies in.
Trail Mix
This snack is very versatile and easy to take on vacation. You simply put dried food items in a resalable sandwich bag and throw it in your purse or carryon luggage. Popular choices to put into trail mix include raisins, granola, sunflower seeds and peanuts.
Crackers
If you want something that’s crunchy and filling, crackers are a great choice. They are easy to carry and can be eaten plain or with a topping of some sort. If you don’t want to eat them plain, you can place a nut butter of some sort on them that doesn’t need refrigeration or even a bit of jelly or jam.
Granola Bars
Looking for an easy to pack, prepackaged snack that’s somewhat healthy? Granola bars are a good option. Many of them are filling and have less than 200 calories per bar.
