Holiday Air Travel Tips

Flying home for the holiday? You’ll be thankful for these Thanksgiving travel tips:

  • Plan to arrive at least 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to domestic departures and 2 hours prior to international flights to allow time to clear security. These are the standard arrival times.  If you are flying the day before Thanksgiving, give yourself at least an extra hour added onto these times to account for crowded airports and security check points.
  • Check in online up to 24 hours before departure. Or, you may check in with a web-enabled mobile device in select cities or by scanning your itinerary at a self-service airport kiosks.*
  • Size up your carry-on bag to ensure it fits our requirements (22″ x 14″ x 9″ with wheels and handles), and review checked baggage rules and fee information. Then, check baggage at the counter or curbside.** Take notice – some airlines even charge for carry on luggage now.
  • Review guidelines for children traveling without an adult and pet travel restrictions.
  • Comply with the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Secure Flight program policies and stay up-to-date on passport and visa requirements.
  • Know the requirements for the security checkpoint (no wrapped packages, please), pack your 3-ounce containers of liquids in a quart-size clear plastic zip-top bag, and read the DOT’s Safe Travel information about traveling with spare batteries.

Don’t forget to take advantage of free Wi-Fi on all Gogo-equipped Delta, AirTran and Virgin America flights between November 20, 2010 and January 2, 2011 — compliments of Google Chrome.

* For international travel, customers must have their passport credentials checked by an agent prior to boarding. Minimum check-in times vary for international travel.
** Curbside check-in is not available for travel to some international markets.

We wish you all a Happy and Safe Holiday season!
