If you love traveling, or know someone who does, a magazine subscription to a publication that specializes in all things travel can be a real treat: Not only will you discover new and exciting potential vacation destinations, but you will also learn valuable travel tips and enjoy breathtaking photographs of places that you dream of seeing yourself one day. It can be difficult to choose from what’s available out there. Here are some possibilities if you are looking for a travel magazine to inspire or entertain you:

  • National Geographic Traveler  If you dream of the exotic, remote and luxurious, National Geographic Traveler may be the magazine for you. Like National Geographic, the traveler edition is replete with stunning photography and the type of storytelling that makes you feel as though you are actually there. This might not be the most practical magazine for the budget traveler, as many of the locations profiled are fairly pricy, but it’s great for armchair travelers or for those who would like to splurge on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation. There are sometimes budget-friendly tips, so even if high-end travel might be only a dream of yours, you will still be able to glean some good ideas.

  • Conde Nast Traveler  Geared toward the affluent, chic and sophisticated traveler, Conde Nast offers more than simply tips on where to stay and what to do in your target destination. It is full of insight on the regional customs, transportation options, local foods and other details that make a place unique. The serious traveler needs to know what to do in case of illness in a particular remote location, or what specific parts of a city to stay away from in order to avoid crime. Conde Nast has this information and more.

  • Backpacker  Does your idea of a great vacation include backpacking, camping, hiking and other outdoor pursuits? If so, then Backpacker might be the best magazine for you. From tips on what to pack to great recipes to try while cooking over an open flame on the trail, Backpacker has the information you need to make your next hiking trip a success.

  • Islands  If a vacation to an island sounds like your idea of paradise, then Islands magazine would be a great gift to give yourself. As the name would imply, this publication focuses solely on the islands around the world, including those in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Fiji, and those that are lesser-known and off the beaten path. You’ll be able to find out about the cost of living (and vacationing), local customs, languages spoken, where to eat, and excellent accommodations on your target island.

  • The Travel Experience:  We at Atlas offer an online magazine called The Travel Experience.  The complimentary magazine comes out 6 times per year.  Each edition covers different areas of the globe, along with cruises, tours and vacations.  See destinations come alive with amazing pictures, video and slides, along with informative articles.  This publication is designed using html5 technology so it will work on iPads and other tablets, as well as the most recent versions of all browsers (Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari). We currently have 13 online magazines you can enjoy.

No matter where you would like to roam, there is sure to be a magazine that speaks to you. Some are dedicated to a specific type of destination, while others are geared toward certain types of travel. A few are diverse enough to offer tips and ideas for all sorts of vacations spanning the entire world. If you can’t visit a place, the next best thing may be to read about it, so even occasional or armchair travelers would likely benefit from paging through a glossy magazine featuring information about faraway places.
