Money Saving Travel Resolutions

Not all resolutions have to deal with losing weight, getting a better job or making more money. If you do travel a lot or plan to do so more in the New Year, why don’t not make it your resolution to save money while traveling?

The following money saving travel resolutions are something you might strive to stick to in 2020.

Be Flexible
One of the easiest ways you can save money while traveling is to be flexible. When making your travel plans you can save a lot of money by not having your dates set in stone. Even being able to change your anticipated dates by a day or two can save you hundreds of dollars. As far as flexibility goes, don’t get your heart set on a particular hotel or airline. If the ultimate goal is to save money you might have to go with the cheaper option available at the time and not necessarily your favorite one.

Utilize Price Alerts
If you are shopping for airfare, we highly recommend apps like Hopper and Google Flights that will monitor your dates and let you know when the best time to purchase is.  For cruising also take advantage of free cruise price alerts.  This technology will watch a sailing for you not only prior to booking, but also all the way through final payment, so if there are any better promotions that come along you will receive an email alert and we can take care of the details.

Take Advantage Of Loyalty Programs
Delta, Holiday Inn and quite a few other hotels and airlines have loyalty programs. Many times these programs are free and basically will give you perks like discounted rates every time you travel with them. Some programs like one through hotels.com, will give you a free hotel for one night after staying so many nights within a calendar year. For even more savings book your travel plans on a credit card that gives you points for using the card.

Visit The Local Market Or Grocery Store
One of the easiest ways to save money while traveling is to limit how much you are eating out. Pack snacks to eat on the plane and when you get to your destination visit the local market or grocery store. It’s actually pretty fun to go see what the locals eat and to try some of it yourself.

Use A Travel Agent
One of the easiest ways to save money while traveling is to use a travel agent. While looking online for deals, being flexible and using loyalty programs will save you money, a travel agent can find you the best deals without you having to do any work. After all, they do this every day and can be a valuable tool to not only find you great deals, but to advice you on the best places to go during the times when it will be the cheapest to do so. Remember it doesn’t cost you anything to use their expertise.
