Robot Suitcase

Do you dislike traveling because you always have to tow around a heavy suitcase? What you just may need is a robot suitcase. If you are willing to shell out a pretty penny to solve your suitcase woes you may want to consider this technologically advanced suitcase, a robot suitcase.

What It Does
The Orvis is still in development, but it’s expected to be able to drive itself pretty effortlessly once it is completed. This robot luggage can do so by using a variety of sensors that allows it to follow right along beside you autonomously. These sensors will allow it to not only keep up with you, but also keep it from running into objects or other people. Basically this suitcase will have its own special kind of vision power. In addition to this it will have 2 USB charging stations that will allow you to charge your devices while you are on the go.

It’s Competition
A lot of new types of luggage has been developed over the years. What this mean is that even robot luggage will have some sort of competition and it isn’t the only bag of this kind that’s currently being developed. The 90Fun Puppy 1 will be similar to a segway. It’s still in what the developers call “prototype mode”, but has gotten a lot of attention from eager travelers for quite some time. There is a fairly popular self moving suitcase that is currently for sale called the Travelmate. Unfortunately, it does cost $1,100 and because of the high amount of order volume, buyers may need to wait up to three months in order to receive it.

Concerns About These Bags
Despite all of the hype about robot suitcases, there are some concerns. They each have built-in batteries that some fear could malfunction and cause the suitcases to catch on fire. These bags aren’t currently allowed on airplanes. However, the developers of the Orvis have thought of this and the suitcase does include removable batteries.

If you are interested in the Orvis despite some of the concerns about it, this robot suitcase is currently an Indiegogo campaign and is seeking early backers. Interested consumers can currently buy a bag for $319, but it isn’t expected to be delivered until December. This does mean though that it could make the perfect Christmas present for one of your loved ones!
