What To Do In August

Can you believe it, August is just about here? With summer starting to wind down you may be itching to get a trip in before the busy holiday season is upon us. The following are great things to do in August.

The Maine Lobster Festival

When: August 2-6

Located on the infamous coastline of Maine, the Maine Lobster Festival is one of the most anticipated seafood festivals in New England. Local seafood, including plenty of fresh lobster, will be onhand to enjoy. Besides all of the food, this five day festival will feature arts and crafts, rides and activities for the kids, the Coronation of the Sea Goddess pageant as well as a 10K race.

Dublin Irish Festival

When: August 4-6

You don’t have to go all the way to Ireland to feel Irish for a few days. The Dublin Irish Festival takes place in Dublin, Ohio. It features all the usual Irish traditions like music, dance and plenty of drinking. There will also be Celtic sporting competitions, storytellers, rides and magicians on hand. For those that have a little extra energy to burn, there will be a 5K run where all participants have to wear green.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

Bikers from around the country head over to South Dakota to take part in this event every August. In total, there tends to be more than half a million attendees each year. There are numerous racing events as well as rides around the black hills. Attendees can also take part in beard competitions, show off their tattoos or their bikes. A pub crawl will take place as well as a “Street Food Throw-down” so come hungry.

Hong Kong Dragon Festival In Queens

When: August 12-13

During this festival there are close to 180 different dragon boat teams. They race across the lake to try to be the first to finish at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The race isn’t the only thing going on at the event. There will be lion dance performances, martial arts demonstrations and plenty of food on hand.

Renaissance Fest In Shakopee

When: August 19-20

Renaissance lovers can enjoy the U.S.’s largest renaissance festival during the month of August in Minnesota. In food alone there’s more than 100 different European inspired food booths. There’s live jousting to watch as well as a variety of live shows and demonstrations. If you do attend this festival, don’t forget to don your renaissance garb.
