Kayak.com, a discount travel site, recently posted the results of an analysis of searches performed by the site’s users. Have you been wondering where everyone else will be traveling this summer? Whether you want to follow the crowds or avoid them, the information might be useful, and is sure to be interesting. Here are some of the summer 2013 travel trends that Kayak.com is expecting based on searches:

  • Nashville, Tennessee, is super popular among Memorial Day travelers. According to the site, there has been a 42 percent increase among those traveling to the Music City. Other popular cities for travel during the holiday weekend are Joliet, Illinois; Saratoga Springs, New York; Denver, Colorado; Austin, Texas; and Washington, DC.

  • The heat won’t stop travelers from visiting warm-weather locales this summer. Top vacation spots include Orlando, Florida; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Las Vegas, Nevada. There is some good news if you’re hoping to stay toasty warm this summer: Several sultry destinations are, on average, cheaper to visit this year than they were in 2012. Flights to the top vacation spots are either lower or almost the same, and hotels in the Florida cities of Miami and Daytona Beach have dropped prices since last year.

  • The Canadian cities of Montreal and Vancouver have experienced a sharp increase in popularity this year, along with a decrease in airfare prices. This might make Canadian travel a winner for 2013!

Kayak recommends booking travel three to five weeks before your departure date for the best rates, and points out that while the summer is an expensive time to go on vacation, August typically boasts the lowest airfare rates of the year. So if you are planning a summer vacation, don’t book too early (or too late!), and consider going toward the end of your kids’ summer break if you want to fly.
