Want to go someplace remote for your next vacation? How about to space?! In 2021, a space hotel may be open if billionaire Robert Bigelow gets his way. If you are ready to escape all of the comforts of Earth, here’s how you can be a part of the adventure of a lifetime.
The Future Is In Two Stations
Some may think that a space hotel probably could never be built and will always be just a dream. What’s surprising about this far-fetched ‘concept’ is that it has not only become a reality, but construction has already began. Founded back in 1999, Bigelow Aerospace has started to create ‘fully autonomous standalone space stations.’ They are called B330. The first two stations, B330-1 and B330-2, are supposedly pretty far in the fabrication process. Each one is about 22 feet wide and 55 feet long and, even though they are independent of one another, they will eventually be linked together to create the hotel. To put the size in perspective, each one is about double the size of the International Space Station. Each B330 will have six beds.

The Space Hotel will be about 250 miles above the earth and will operate in low earth orbit. For now, Bigelow plans on selling reservations to individuals in the government who may need to spend time in space to conduct experiments. Eventually, reservations will be opened up to tourists who are willing to shell out a hefty amount of money to stay there. It could cost anywhere from $100,000 up to a million dollars to stay at this space hotel. This experience certainly won’t be cheap, but could be very beneficial for the wealthy who are looking for a different kind of vacation experience or for that avid scientist who’s always been looking for a unique way to carry out experiments and learn how being in space will impact them.
Bigelow, the Hotel Guru
Bigelow isn’t a stranger to the hotel business, either. In 1987, he founded the Budget Suites of America hotel chain. He opted for this business because, at only 12 years old, he decided that he wanted to be involved in space travel in some way and wanted to have a career that would allow him to make enough money to do so. As you can see, all the planning he did when it came to his future when he was just a kid certainly has paid off! Apparently, by 2022, there will be several options for space hotels. Orion Span plans to also offer a luxury space hotel “astronaut experience” for the price of $792,000 a night. The plans are for a station that can accommodate four travelers and two crew for a 12-day stay just about 200 miles above our beautiful planet Earth. At this point it appears that guests will be charged $9.5 million each which is about $791,666 a night and with a deposit of $80,000 that can be made online.
