Special Shopping Hours for Seniors Amid Coronavirus

Several grocery stores chains and retail stores have stepped up and designated earlier hours for those most vulnerable to the coronavirus…. senior citizens.

Here are a list of stores offering senior shopping hours amid coronavirus.

Albertsons: Tuesday and Thursday from 7 am to 9 am, the company is reserving time for “those vulnerable shoppers who must leave home to obtain their groceries, unless otherwise locally mandated.” For a complete list of Albertsons stores click here.

Big Lots: They are reserving the first hour of each day for senior citizens and “those most vulnerable to this virus,” CEO Bruce Thorn said in an email.

Cardenas: First responders, seniors 65+ & the disabled, can shop between 6 a.m. and 6 a.m. to 8 am in Northern California & 7 to 8 am in Southern California, Vegas & Tucson.

Costco: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 9 am, Costco will open its doors for members 60 years and older. The special hours will started on March 24 and will continue until further notice.

Dollar General: Dollar General will dedicate the first hour in its more than 16,000 stores in 44 states to help senior shoppers “avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods.” No specific age minimum was mentioned.

Fresh MarketThe grocer, which has 159 stores in 22 states, is reserving the first hour stores open, from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, for “seniors and those most at risk.”

Lowes Foods: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 am to 8 am are dedicated to Seniors and those who are more vulnerable to the virus.

Publix: Starting March 24 and until further notice, Publix is designating Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7 to 8 a.m. for seniors 65 and over, Pharmacies also will open at 7 a.m. “Tuesdays and Wednesdays to serve our senior population,” the Florida-based retailer said.

SafewayFrom 7 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, the company is reserving time for seniors, “those vulnerable shoppers who must leave home to obtain their groceries, unless otherwise locally mandated.” 

Sam’s Club: Sam’s Club has announced dedicated shopping hours and a “shop from your car” service for seniors and those with disabilities or compromised immune systems. Starting Thursday, March 26, locations across the country will offer shopping hours every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. to impacted customers.

Stop & Shop: This retailers has over 400 stores throughout New York, New jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut & Rhode Island. They will give shoppers 60+ 90 minutes to shop each morning from 6 to 7:30 a.m.

Target: The retailer will “reserve the first hour of shopping each Wednesday at stores nationwide for vulnerable guests,”

Trader Joe’s: The first hour every day, from 9-10 a.m., will be reserved for seniors, and while the company didn’t provide a specific age, it’s generally expected to serve those 65 years and older. There will also be a separate line for seniors to help them get into the store quicker and get their shopping done.

Walgreens: Walgreens is adding a senior hour on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Walmart: On Tuesday, customers 60 and older can shop one hour before the stores open for everyone else. This is currently scheduled through April 28th.

Winn Dixie: Seniors and other high-risk customers are invited to shop at their local Winn-Dixie grocery store from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. every weekday. All stores will close at 9 p.m. until further notice, according to the company.

Whole Foods Market: All Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. and Canada will let customers who are 60 and older shop one hour before opening to the public. (example: if a store’s new hours are 9am-8pm, customers who are 60+ can shop starting at 8 a.m.)
