In the travel industry we notice travel trends occurring throughout the year. Travel trends tend to occur because of an event going on or because accommodations or airfare are at an all-time low in certain areas. Throughout the summer months there are several destinations that travelers have been flocking too in record numbers.

Here are the current travel trends for 2014

Brazil:  It’s no surprise that with the summer’s World Cup going on that Brazil has become a popular tourist destination during the months of May, June and July. This country has always been a favorite among those that like to go on luxury beach vacations, but from around the end of May this year until the middle of July, Brazil had around 1,035 million tourists! Travel is up in the country by about 70% this year.

Lima:  Lima, Peru has grown in tourism over the last couple of years. The weather is relatively mild throughout the year, but is often covered in dense fog so it hasn’t always been a top vacation spot. Many travelers used to just pass through the area to get to more popular destinations such as the Andes. However, Lima is actively working to build tourism through its contemporary art and new, trendy hotels. Lima may not look like much on the outside, but once a traveler really gets to explore the area they tend to fall in love with it. The area is filled with many museums, interesting architecture and a rich history.

Germany:  Over the last year Germany has seen about 24% more travelers than usual. With this year being the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall being torn down, it would be no surprise if tourism reaches an all-time high this year. Top attractions in Germany include Neuschwanstein Castle, UNESCO World Heritage Site Cologne Cathedral, Europa-Park and of course the Berlin Wall. During the winter months many people visit Germany in order to attend their famous Christmas markets.

England:  It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, it seems that London, England is always a popular spot for travelers. Perhaps it’s because there’s so much to do or see in the area or maybe it’s because of the delectable food. No matter what the reason is, a trip to England won’t disappoint even the most seasoned of travelers. One of the most popular cities in England to travel to is London. The London Eye and The Tower of London are always popular attractions for tourists. The cities of Manchester, Cambridge and Liverpool are gaining popularity with tourists as well. It’s always interesting for us to see what travel trends are occurring throughout the year.

Some of these trends like England always tends to be popular. Other up and coming areas like Lima may come as a surprise since they have not been popular among travelers in recent years. It will be interesting to see what destinations are popular during the fall and winter travel seasons. Do you think you can predict what they are going to be this year? New England Fall foliage tours and Christmas market vacations and river cruises to Europe have been booking strong, so we’ll have to see if they stay in the top 4.
