Why You Shouldn’t Bother Dressing Up On A Flight

974

I was reading an article on why you should dress up on a flight, and was completely turned off by what was written…

  1. You may get an upgrade to business class
  2. Saving space in your suitcase, and (wait for it…)
  3. Feel better about yourself

First of all, upgrades are few & far between. Flights are fuller these days and last minute upgrades are rare. Even when there are seats available, the are often reserved for the airlines preferred/frequent travelers.

When it comes to the last reason, do people still think that way? No offense to the writer, but if you don’t know who you are or what you’re worth, you can wear a custom fitted Tom Ford rig for all I care and you still wouldn’t get any play. Why? Because confidence is knowing who you are and what you’re capable of, am I right? If you really want the upgrade, you’d fight for it with confidence & charm. A nice suit, pair of wingtips and cuff links aren’t gonna do that.

To close this chapter on confidence or lack thereof, you’re not born with it; in fact no one is and if someone says otherwise, they’re full of less confidence and more crap, because it just isn’t true. If you lack confidence, NO BIG DEAL! Know this… The more you get out there, the better you’ll be, cause practice makes perfect. There are also books on the subject and let’s not forget about Google & YouTube.

Why Do We Wear Sweatpants and Sandals On A Flight?

Because they’re comfortable! I mean, why would we want to wear our nice digs on seats that haven’t been cleaned the way a five star restaurant would’ve cleaned them? Again, no offense, but come on! When did saying hello and thank you to airline attendants with a sincere smile get beat out by a suit or a dress? The article draws airline attendants as people who prefer well-dressed travelers over good ole-fashioned manners, and it paints them kinda shallow. I for one travel business class all the time and you’ll see me in old jeans a white baggy t-shirt and sandals with the likes of American, United, Emirates, Iberia, Virgin and I can hold a great conversation like it’s no one’s business.

You’re on a 3, 8 or 13 hour flight to get from point A to where you’re gonna wear something nice, whether it be to a meeting, party or dinner with a lovely or handsome person. Why on God’s green earth would you waste that on a flight unless you had a business meeting the moment you land? Because you want to look the part of someone you’re more than likely not? Got news for ya, the person you’re trying to be will more than likely wear what I do on a flight and save his or her nice rigs for later.

In conclusion… Who ever coined the term “the clothes make the (wo)man” we feel was completely wrong!
