The architectural firm, Dar Al-Handasah has big things in mind with their $3.5 billion dollar hotel set to open in 2017. It is currently being built in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and will be the world’s biggest hotel once it is complete. The total area of the site will span across 1.4 million square meters, which is about 80 football fields. It will consist of not only a hotel, but a commercial and residential complex as well. The hotel will be able to accommodate quite a few guests whether on personal or business travel.
The Design
There will be 12 towers that come out of a podium like structure. Two of the towers will have 5 star rooms, while the other 10 will have 4 star rooms. Overall, Abraj Kudai will have 10,000 rooms, so if you want intimate accommodations, this probably isn’t the hotel for you. Guests will not go hungry as there are 70 different restaurants to choose from. The hotel will also cater to business travelers with a full-size convention center as well. There will even be helipads for those flying in on their helicopters. On site there will also be a shopping mall and bus station. There will also be plenty of parking for those that don’t plan on utilizing public transportation.
Location
The Abraj Kudai hotel will be located near Ajyad Street as well as both the Birka and Kudai tunnels. The hotel can be accessed by two main roads and a private one. It will be located in an area that is filled with many buildings and properties and will bring new life to the area.
How It Compares
Abraj Kudai really outdoes other hotels as far as the amount of rooms. Currently, the top five hotels in the world, based on room count are:
- MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas with 6,198 rooms
- First World Hotel in Malaysia with 6,118 rooms
- Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas with 4,400 rooms
- Mandalay Bay Resort with Las Vegas with 4,332 rooms
- The Venetian in Las Vegas with 4,049 rooms
With 4 of the top 5 biggest hotels in the world right now being located in Las Vegas, it will be interesting to see whether or not after the Abraj Kudai is built if there will be plans in Sin City to build an even bigger hotel that can accommodate more than 10,000 guests.
