New York can be over whelming, particularly for first time visitors. A great and inexpensive way to see the sites is on a double-decker hop-on, hop-off tour bus. Typically the busses have 3 routes or “loops:” Brooklyn Loop, Uptown Loop & Downtown Loop.
The Downtown Loop covers stops such as Macys, the Theatre District, Times Square, Empire State building, Union Square, Greenwich Village, Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, Rockefeller Center and Central Park. The Uptown Loop includes the Apollo Theatre, Harlem, 5th Avenue, Central Park Conservatory, Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park Zoo.
You can buy passes for the day starting around $44 per person for a full day (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or there are packages that combine several loops and several days worth of travel. People were passing out flyers everywhere in Time Square, so they are not hard to find.
We were just in New York two weeks ago, and we found a 48 hour “all loop pass,” for $54 per person. The price is quite reasonable when you compare to the cost of a taxi cab. From the Time Square area to Macys cost us $28 round trip. Several 3 day passes include a Harbor cruise as well.
