Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • Combine the baking powder, baking soda, flour, margarine, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Mix in the egg and 1 cup of the buttermilk.
  • Lightly flour a baking sheet and place the dough on top. Shape the dough so it is round.
  • Grease a baking sheet and put the round dough on top of it.
  • Combine the remainder of the buttermilk and the melted butter in a bowl. Brush the top of the dough with it.
  • Place the baking sheet with the dough on it in the oven.
  • Let it cook for 40-45 minutes. When it’s cool, cut an “X” into the top of it using a knife.
