Walt Disney World: Enjoy Smaller Crowds (and Great Deals) in Fall 2012

943

You may have avoided visiting Walt Disney World due to the heat and the crowds of the summer, but now that fall is here, you can enjoy more tolerable weather as well as shorter lines if you visit the theme park. Once children go back to school, the park’s crowds tend to thin out, as most people don’t travel far from home at the start of the school year. The great news is that there are some special events and discounts happening right now, making an impromptu trip to see Mickey and friends a good deal, as well as a magical place to spend a long weekend. Here are a few things to check out:

  • Free Disney Dining Plan: Booking trips for selected dates this fall can net you great savings; when you stay in certain resorts, you’ll get Disney Dining for free! For example, for $69 per person, per day, you can stay in select value resorts and enjoy the quick-service dining plan. For $86 per person per day, you might stay in a moderate resort and have more dining selections, as well. These prices are based on average costs for a week-long stay, and are estimated for a family of four. You need to book by September 29 to take advantage of this deal.
  • Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: Starting September 11, you can party with Mickey and his pals from 7:00 pm until midnight in Magic Kingdom at his famous Halloween party. In addition to the regular attractions, families can enjoy trick-or-treating, face-painting, live shows, fortune telling, special (not too scary) Halloween stories, and more. Tickets are sold separately from regular admission, and they tend to sell out quickly, so if you’re interested in spending an evening having a not-so-scary Halloween with all of your favorite Disney characters, better book now!
  • Just for Florida residents: If you live in Florida and are able to visit the resort during the week, you can get great deals on hotel rooms right now. On select dates in September, you can stay in a value resort for just $66 per night, for example. Remember that staying on property means that you can take advantage of free transportation into the parks. Florida residents can also get special discounts on the water parks as well as other area attractions.

If you’re coming from outside of the local area during the month of September, it’s important to remember that while it will be cooler than it was during July and August, central Florida is still quite hot and humid. You’ll want to pack sunscreen and sunglasses, and you may also want to pick up ponchos for the afternoon downpours that still occur many days in the early fall. As the season progresses, the temperatures will get more comfortable and the chance of daily rain will decrease.
