The 8th Wonder Of The World The Grand Canal Of Venice

2418

In partnership with Conde Nast Traveler, Princess Cruises named their “8th Cruise Wonder Of The World” recently. This wonder was voted by guests and followed the popular 2015’s “7 Cruise Wonders Of The World”. Wondering what this wonder is? It’s The Grand Canal of Venice. Here’s some information about this beautiful body of water that’s an integral part of this city.

About The 8th Wonder
Guests can enter Venice by cruising down the canal in a water taxi, gondola or even on a small ship. This canal is an important component of the city as parts of it would be inaccessible without it. The banks of the Grand Canal have over 170 buildings on either side of it. The majority of these buildings were constructed between the 13th and 18th century so there’s plenty of interesting architecture to look at while sailing down the canal. There are currently several bridges that go across the canal, with one of them connecting to a train station. This is one of the few locations where cars can enter the city. Tourists are generally pleasantly surprised that it’s quite easy to find a water taxi or gondola available to transport them wherever they want to go.

Why The Grand Canal?
Anyone who’s visited Venice has probably been on the Grand Canal or at least seen it. The beauty of it makes it a one of a kind body of water. One of the things that makes it special is that it’s become a necessary part of everyday living in this city. Without it, locals and visitors wouldn’t be able to get from one destination to the other easily.
