The Nieuw Statendam: Holland America’s Newest Cruise Ship
In December 2018, Holland America Cruise Line will debut its newest cruise ship, the Nieuw Statendam. Joining its sister ship Koningsdam, the Nieuw Statendam is the second ship in Holland America’s Pinnacle class of ships, and the line’s largest cruise ship to date and is capable of holding up to 2,650 passengers.
The ships décor and design are artfully inspired by music. For example, they showcase a dramatic three-deck-high central atrium that is graced by an airy stainless-steel sculpture that is meant to emulate the feeling of being inside and surrounded by a musical instrument. The dramatic ceiling in the atrium will have subtly changing backdrops via high-definition projections.
While the Nieuw Statendam has some key features in common with other Holland America ships such as the Crow’s Nest lounge with panoramic views, there are several exciting new features that set Nieuw Statendam apart from previous Holland America cruise ships and will make you want to book your trip today!
State of the Art Accommodations
With 1,339 suites and staterooms in 6 different categories, Nieuw Statendam has accommodations to suit a variety of needs. Guests can choose from Interior, Ocean View, Family Ocean View, Verandah, Vista Suites, Signature Suites, Neptune Suites, and The Pinnacle Suite.
The Pinnacle Suite is the ultimate experience on the Nieuw Statendam cruise ship. It sleeps up to 4 guests, and features a balcony with whirlpool and an elegant open design. There are also 45 Neptune Suites available, two of which are Spa suites with access to the Greenhouse Spa. In addition to concierge service, guests of the Pinnacle Suite and Neptune Suites also have access to the exclusive Neptune Lounge that features complimentary refreshments, a library and television screen, and lounge area.
Passengers staying in the Signature and Vista Suites also receive special amenities, such as oversized bath towels, fresh cut flowers, a mini bar and concierge service.
Refined Onboard Activities
One word comes to mind when describing the activities available onboard the Nieuw Statendam: refined. Nieuw Statendam features sophisticated onboard activities especially catered to its guests. The entertainment zone, Music Walk, is where you will find various music clubs and lounges such as B.B. King’s Blues Club and the Lincoln Center Stage.
Holland America has partnered with BBC Earth to present an exclusive multimedia immersion of spectacular landscapes and wild animals. Planet Earth II in Concert transports guests to various locations– such as among the primates in the jungles of Madagascar among the primates, or with a family of penguins in the Great Southern Ocean– while being accompanied by a live orchestra.
Guests can also attend classes by the famed America’s Test Kitchen complete with hands-on cooking workshops. BLEND by Chateau Ste. Michelle allows guests to blend their own wines and taste their creations, all while being guided by the ship’s master sommelier. The Nieuw Statendam also offers video-editing workshops to its guests, so you can make the best video montage by the end of your cruise.
