Inspired by the new Celebrity Edge cruise ship that arrived at the end of 2018, Celebrity Cruises is responsible for a major upgrade to the Ft. Lauderdale terminal, where the ship will dock during the winter months. Terminal 25 was built back in 1992 but did undergo a renovation in 2004. However, with the addition of more cruises, and even more travelers going in and out of this terminal, it is time for it to be overhauled. “This is the largest financial investment that Port Everglades has made in a cruise terminal, and we fully anticipate that Terminal 25’s iconic design will be a showcase for Broward County and Celebrity Cruises,” said Broward County Mayor Beam Furr.
Here is more information about the renovations that are part of the Celebrity Cruises Redesign of the Ft. Lauderdale cruise terminal.
Changes Everyone Can Be Happy About
One of the biggest complaints that travelers have had in the past has to do with the check-in process. Since the terminal opened, it typically took quite some time for travelers to get checked in onboard cruise ships. Fortunately, all of this is about to change. Part of the upgrades for this terminal will include a quicker check-in process. This will be possible with the new facial recognition system. It will allow passengers to not have to deal with long wait times and to get from the port onto the cruise ship a lot faster. There will also be LED lighting to make it easier for travelers to see where they are going at night and to add an aesthetically pleasing effect. An exclusive lounge will also be added to the terminal, but only those staying in a suite on one of Celebrity cruise ships will be able to access it. The lounge will include a rooftop terrace and a screening area, offering a nice place to relax before or after a cruise.
Terminal 25 will also feature a 1,463 sq ft GKD Mediamesh that will wrap the terminal’s exterior, juxtaposing the more than 18,000 sq. ft. of outward facing glass. This new terminal is supposed to make the travel experience for passengers a lot more enjoyable overall. Travelers won’t have to wait much longer to see it, either, as it’s scheduled to be completed by the end of October of this year. The design of Terminal 25 will complement this new ship; Celebrity Edge, as well as several other Celebrity cruise ships including the Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Reflection, and the Celebrity Silhouette, will call this port home during the winter seasons. When the cruise line is not using Terminal 25, other cruise lines will be allowed to use it. Each year around 335,000 travelers go through Port Everglades to set sail on Celebrity Cruises. After this terminal is completed, this number is expected to increase quite a bit to 500,000 each year. All of the upgrades to Terminal 25 and its seamless design will hopefully allow travelers to have a better experience while at Port Everglades.
