With summer just around the corner you may be wondering whether it’s a good time to book a cruise. The simple answer is, yes and no. You see, it really depends on where you want to go. Some destinations are great to visit during the summer while other destinations you should wait to visit until a different time of year. If you have your heart set on taking a cruise, this guide will help you determine when to visit the following destinations.

Alaska

When To Visit: The Summer

Why You Should Go: Alaska during the summer months experiences mild temperatures. The wildlife is generally abundant. Many excursions are centered on seeing Alaska’s wildlife so it’s best to visit this destination when you stand a chance of seeing the most of it.

Reasons You Might Want To Wait: From June through August tends to be the most in demand time of year. This means that prices will be higher. If you do want to wait to go to save a buck or two, May and September tend to be good months to visit Alaska, although you do have a chance of running into cancellations due to snow in September.

Bermuda

When To Visit: The Summer

Why You Should Go: The water temperatures in Bermuda are pleasant in the summer months. It’s the perfect time to partake in the wide variety of watersports offered here. There are also many different cruises to choose from during this time.

Reasons You Might Want To Wait: It does tend to be hot in Bermuda during the summer. Cruise ships are also generally more crowded than the off season. If you can get away for a cruise before the summer, May is a great time to go as it’s a little less humid and there doesn’t tend to be much rain.

The Caribbean

When To Visit: The End Of June Through The End Of August And February Through April

Why You Should Go: The weather tends to be nice in the Caribbean during the summer months and from February through April there are a lot of activities offered. You will have a wide variety of shore excursions available, many of them catered towards kids during the months of June, July and August.

Reasons You Might Want To Wait: Besides the heftier prices and the crowds, June through November is the hurricane season for the Caribbean. While it’s not often that they will see a hurricane before around the middle of August, if you want to risk being stuck in a major storm or don’t want to deal with the inflated rates that occur from February through April, then December and January tend to be good months to visit the Caribbean.

Hawaii

When To Visit: The End Of December Through April

Why You Should Go: This time of year is the best time to see whales and experience the warm weather. It’s a popular destination for those looking for a winter getaway with a wide variety of cruise ships to choose from.

Reasons You Might Want To Wait: Hawaii’s rainy season lasts from December through March despite it being a popular time to cruise to the island. A good time of year to visit the Hawaii if you want to avoid the chance of rain or the large crowds is around Thanksgiving.
