A new face in Port Canaveral, Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish”. She is welcomed as a long-awaited addition to the Port Canaveral-based Disney fleet. The Disney Wish is powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas) and will be home ported at the only cruise port in North America to support LNG fueling of vessels.
The Disney Wish will offer 3 and 4-night itineraries to The Bahamas with stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. July 14 will be her inaugural sailing from the Port’s Cruise Terminal 8.
The Disney Wish is the first of three new ships joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet from now through 2025.
The 1254-stateroom Disney Wish has finally been christened. This is Disney Cruise Line’s first new vessel in a decade, and it has had many setbacks with pandemic-related delays. As a result, her maiden voyage has been postponed until July 14, but well worth the wait. She touts 25 entertainment venues, 4400 pieces of art on display, and 70,00 garments worn by cast and crew.
The Rapunzel figure on Disney Wish’s stern has hair spanning nearly 60 feet.
Unlike other ships, this ship will have a vast number of godchildren rather than a godmother. The godchildren will be Make-A-Wish children, including past, present, and future wish recipients. Disney making wishes come true is a part of its heritage. By granting more than 145,000 wishes, providing encouragement and inspiration to wish kids who have endured critical illnesses.
Three Make-A-Wish children ambassadors were invited on stage to recite the blessing for the Disney Wish during the christening ceremony.
The Disney Wish is the fifth ship in the Disney fleet and features new concepts, including the Aqua Mouse, a Frozen–themed theatrical dining experience, an interactive Marvel-themed dining adventure, and the Hyperspace Lounge, a high-end bar area that draws its inspiration from the Star Wars canon. Two more Disney ships are in the planning stages and the development of a second private destination in the Bahamas.
