July 4th…a “firecracker” event for Holland America Lines! Their newest ship, Nieuw Amsterdam sailed on its maiden voyage. It is the fifteenth ship in Holland America’s fleet and will be sailing trans-Atlantic this fall. It will then sail the eastern and western Caribbean itineraries from November through March of 2011. This glorious vessel will feature outstanding dining options in various restaurants…international cuisine will be featured. If dining is your reason for cruising, you’ve reached your goal. But wait, there’s more! The ship was named Nieuw Amsterdam by Princess Maxim of the Netherlands, in a ceremony in Venice July 4th. The ship, honoring NewYork City (Nieuw Amsterdam), reflects the craftwork and historical artifacts of Native Americans and Dutch influence. Holland America has a 138 year association with New York City and this history is proudly displayed throughout the ship.
Features far beyond the usual are to be found on this modern, state-0f -the-art vessel: the Observation Deck (Deck 11) has a 52-seat bar and lounge; Tamarand, a Pan Asian restaurane; the Observation Deck Cabana Clkub with private tented cagans for the day or for the entire cruise. The Explorations Cafe is on this deck, a New York Times coffee bistro with large library, Internet terminals and workld newspaers to peruse in comfortable arm chairs and sofas.
