I other Viking-related news, the new Viking Venus ship was named on May 17th during a ceremony at sea in the English Channel. Anne Diamond, the ship’s godmother assisted in breaking a bottle of Norwegian aquavit on the ship’s hull, using a historical Viking broad as to cut a ribbon that symbolically held the bottle in place.

The Viking Venus, a 930-passenger ship  is enroute to Portsmouth, England, where its May 22nd inaugural voyage will mark Viking’s return to service. Viking is among the first to set sail again after a 14 month pause, with industry-leading health and safety protocols in place.

The ship will offer five eight-day roundtrip English coast sailings visiting Liverpool, the Isles of Sicily, Falmouth and Portland. Ms. Diamond will be a guest on the first three cruises, serving as a lecturer with a presentation on British radar inventors, including her father, during World War II.

The Viking Venus will then sail to Malta, its homeport for Mediterranean cruises this summer and fall. Venus is the seventh vessel to join Viking’s ocean fleet.
