Things are always getting bigger and better when it comes to hotels. We’ve seen everything from infinity pools, expensive linens, high end electronics and world class restaurants at some of the newer hotels. Hotel brands are constantly trying to outdo themselves in order to increase their bookings. Another interesting trend we’ve been seeing is the size of some of the newly constructed hotels has increased. Recently one of Marriott’s hotels, which held the title of the world’s tallest hotel, lost its title on February 9. The Gevora Hotel now has this distinction. The Overall Stats
At 1,168 feet tall the Gevora is only 1 meter taller than the Marriott. This new hotel is so tall in fact that it’s close to a quarter of a mile in height. It is shorter than the world’ tallest building though, the Burj Khalifa (which is also in Dubai), by around 500 meters. Interestingly enough, Dubai is home to 6 of the world’s 10 tallest hotels. The Gevora has 77 stories and the top floor doesn’t contain a hotel room. The Gulf News newspaper is located on the top floor and can be reached by taking a 16 mile per hour, 38 second elevator ride or by climbing 3,859 stairs. Because the newspaper is located on the top, and not a hotel room, the Gevora doesn’t hold the title of the world’s highest hotel room. That distinction has gone to Hong Kong’s Ritz-Carlton, that has rooms on floor 118.
The Amenities
There are a variety of amenities for guests to enjoy at this hotel. They include the world’s highest swimming pool, a sauna and a health club and four different restaurants, plus a coffee shop. In addition to the amenities at the hotel, there are all sorts of things to do in Dubai including visiting the Grand Mosque, Deira Clocktower and the Dubai Miracle Garden.
This hotel has a total of 528 rooms and suites. Despite its “celebrity status” of being the world’s tallest hotel, it is fairly affordable. Rooms cost around $150 a night while deluxe suites are $550 a night. Even though there are so many rooms available, they are booking quickly so if you do plan on staying at this hotel, make sure you make your reservations well in advance.
