Atlanta in April: Things to Do

913

Everything is in full-bloom in Atlanta, Georgia, come April, and the temperature isn’t too high yet, making this month a great time to come visit “Hotlanta.” The city is easy to get to, as it’s home to a major international airport, and there’s a wide variety of accommodations available, from chain motels, to luxury resorts, to bed-and-breakfasts. While the city itself will give you plenty to do year-round, there are some things going on in April that you should know about if you’re planning a visit this spring:

  • Sporting Events  The sports scene really heats up in Atlanta in April, so if you’re a baseball or basketball fan, now’s a great time to get some great tickets. The Braves will be back from spring training and will have home games sporadically, mostly during the first half of the month. See them play the Phillies, the Cubs, the Royals or the Nationals in April. Also, the NCAA Men’s Final Four will take place in the Georgia Dome from April 6 to April 8 this year. There are some special events going on to highlight the festivities, including the Bracket Town fan festival and the Big Dance Concert Series.
  • Spring Festivals  The people in Atlanta know how to celebrate spring’s arrival! There are several festivals going on during the month of April that you shouldn’t miss if you’re in the area. The Atlanta Dogwood Festival, from April 19 to 21, takes place in Piedmont Park and celebrates the blooming of the dogwood trees. It will include music, arts and crafts, family activities and more. The Georgia Renaissance Festival starts on April 13 and runs through June 2. See fun 16th-century activities like sword-swallowing, juggling, jousting, magic acts and more. If you’re traveling during the last weekend of April, you’re in for a real treat at the Inman Park Festival. Here you’ll find a huge street market, home tours, live music, children’s activities, and a 5K run.
  • Atlanta Night Life  The famous nightlife of the city is available year-round, of course, but April is a great month to experience it because temperatures are mild and the evenings aren’t too humid yet. Start off with dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, then stop by Andrew’s Entertainment Complex or Havana Club. Hit Dante’s Down the Hatch for live music, or grab a bite at Buckhead Bottle Bar & Bistro. Your options are nearly limitless when it comes to finding nighttime fun in Atlanta!

Of course, while you’re in the city, you might want to check out the opera or the ballet, visit one of several art galleries, check out trendy boutiques, go on a walking tour, or participate in many other activities that Atlanta offers. Enjoy your trip!
