Siesta Beach Just Voted The Best Beach In The U.S.

As we know, Florida has a lot of great beaches. Siesta Beach was recently named by TripAdvisor as the best beach in the U.S. It is located in the city of Siesta Key which is also home to some of the best beaches in the world. This isn’t the first time that Siesta Beach has received an award. In 2004 The Travel Channel gave it the prestigious honor of having The Best Sand Beach in America and in 1987 it earned the title of having “the whitest and finest sand in the world” in The Great International Beach Challenge. Here’s what make Siesta Beach and Siesta Key popular destinations for tourists.

About The Beach
Siesta Beach is made up of 99% quartz. This is different from most beaches as they usually consist of pulverized coral. This quartz make the sand extremely soft. It is thought that the sand is at least a million years old and actually from the Appalachian Mountains. The water is a turquoise color and is a beautiful backdrop to the white sand.

About Siesta Key
Siesta Key is only about 20 minutes from the city of Sarasota. It consists of an island that’s only about 8-miles long. Don’t let the small town fool you as there’s plenty to do besides the beach. For those that like the nightlife they can visit The Beach Club or Gilligan’s Island Bar and Grill. For those that want to do some shopping there is everything from shoe shops to wine shops. There are no shortage of accommodations on Siesta Key as there’s over 30 different accommodation types to choose from. Since the town is located right on the beach, there are plenty of watersports to partake in including paddle boarding and kayaking. A popular tourist attraction is the Point of Rocks. This interesting rock formation allows visitors to climb to the top and get a scenic view and maybe catch a glimpse of some of the local wildlife.

Siesta beach is a great place for families to visit because there is a lifeguard on duty year round and there’s plenty of shallow water to splash around in near the shoreline. It’s also perfect for those that want a romantic getaway or just want to go on a relaxing vacation. If you are looking for a great vacation, Siesta Key surely won’t disappoint.
