Luxury Camping Vacations a/k/a “Glamping”

Let’s face it, camping isn’t for everyone. No matter how much you’d like to be one with nature, staying in a cabin or tent and cooking over an open fire just might not be that appealing to you. Luckily there is an alternative. Luxury camping, also known as “glamping,” may be just what you are looking for.

Abercrombie & Kent- Jordan
Jordan is considered to be one of the most fascinating places in the world. It is filled with a rich history and the best way to discover it is to be one with the land. If camping out in the hot desert doesn’t appeal to you, Abercrombie & Kent offers a luxurious alternative. The accommodations provide comfort without sacrificing on the area’s traditions. Guests will travel in a camel caravan and get to sleep in a Bedouin tent. Their “room” will consist of Arabian pillows, rugs and candles. They will also have private restrooms and prepared meals.

Yoga Yurt Retreat- Central Portugal
This glamping destination is a conservationist’s dream. This campground utilizes environmentally friendly practices as much as possible. Solar and wind power provide electricity to each campsite. There is also a compost toilet and a wood fired hot water heater. Each tent has a double bed, small indoor and outdoor sitting areas and a view of a lake. Onsite amenities include body treatments and massages.

Luxury Villas- Halls Gap, Australia
Even the Australians know how to glamp. Luxury Villas, located in Halls Gap, consists of upscale cabins that feature things like air conditioning and well outfitted accommodations. This campground is truly for those that want to enjoy being out in the wilderness during the day, but have a very comfortable place to go back to at night. Each room features not only its own bedroom, but a bathroom with a large bathtub, a sitting area with a couch and a fully equipped kitchen. The campground offers a spa and a great location to see some of the local wildlife such as kangaroos and emus.

Four Seasons – Golden Triangle, Thailand
Even the Four Seasons offers luxury camping. Their campground in Thailand features 581 tents that have a stone fireplace, bathtub, double bed and dining area. All of these tents are tastefully decorated with only the finest of furnishing. There is also a private deck that has a wooden hot tub, which is perfect to relax in after long day of hiking or exploring one of Thailand’s many jungles. Guests can even utilize room service if they don’t feel like going to get something to eat at the onsite pub.

El Capitan Canyon- California
El Capitan Canyon is located within about 20 miles of Santa Barbara. It’s in close proximity to both the forest and the beach and there are plenty of things for travelers to do including horseback riding and kayaking. Each of the tents at the campsite are made of a thick canvas. There are wooden platforms underneath as well as hand-woven beds. Guests can also stay at one of the cedar cabins if they don’t want to stay in a tent. There’s onsite yoga classes and massages.

Sau Bay, Northern Division- Fiji
Fiji is a wonderful place to experience luxury camping with all of its beautiful surroundings. The camping at Sau Bay may just look like some tents scattered on the beach, but it’s a lot more than just that. Beneath the canvas walls of each tent there is an open bedroom with a king sized bed and bathroom with a sunken bathtub. Each evening guests can sit on their private deck and watch the sun set.

Serai- Jaisalmer
Serai in Jaisalmer can be described in one word: glamorous! It features 21 tents that are made out of canvas and Jaisalmer stone. These tents are more like canvas houses rather than actual tents. Each one is about 1,000 square feet and consists of a living room, bedroom and bathroom. All of the bed linens are soft and plush which allows for guests to get a good night’s sleep. Each tent also has a private place outside where guests can relax and enjoy the view.

African Travel, Camp Kuzuma- Chobe
Camp Kuzuma is a relatively new camp in Chobe. It’s perfect for those that want a more intimate environment. The campsite consists of five tented suites that have a his and hers shower, a bed fitted with luxurious sheets and tasteful décor. For guests comfort, each area of the campground is interconnected with wooden walkways that are raised. This allows them to walk around the campground safely. The campground features amenities such as a bar, library, spa and swimming pool. Camp Kuzuma is located within about 45 minutes of Kasane Airport so it’s easily accessible for travelers.
