How did 2020 change you? With your eye on the new year, it is ok to go back and reflect on all of your emotions and experiences in the past year. Casual observers and avid stargazers have a lot to look forward to in the new year. 2021 will bring several astronomical events including a total solar eclipse, lunar eclipses, comets, meteor shows & a supermoon. Along with them, should come much-awaited changes.
Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn Triple Conjunction
From now through the 12th, Mercury, Jupiter & Saturn will be visible in the southwestern sky. This event is known as a “triple conjunction,” which means two planets (Jupiter & Saturn,) meet a 3rd in the sky for a short period of time. You should be able to see them with binoculars around sundown. The planets will form a triple conjunction again on Feb. 13, according to NASA.
Astrology: This occurrence is said to shake up things personally, socially, and politically. It’s a good time to release old habits and make way for new ways of doing things. It will affect the Aquarius sign most intensely but other signs will get an added boost as well.
Solar & Lunar Eclipses 2021
We all know around what time the sun rises & sets each day, and perhaps even when to expect a full moon, but every so often, the moon’s orbit creates a powerful alignment with the sun, forming a potent lunation known as an eclipse. Astrologers tend to advise to lay low during an eclipse and look out for possible changes depending on your astrological sign.
There are two types of eclipses: solar and lunar. Solar eclipses occur during the new moon phase when the sun and moon are positioned at the exact same degree within the same zodiac sign. In a solar eclipse, the moon gets in the way of the sun’s light and casts its shadow on Earth. A lunar eclipse happens when Earth gets in the way of the sun’s light hitting the moon.
Solar Eclipses are like potent New Moons and are said to unlock a door to a new portal of energy. They bring new beginnings and opportunities.
There will be four eclipses in 2021.
- Total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26th (Blood moon)
The moon will transform from a dark grey color during the partial phase of the eclipse to a reddish-orange color during this time. The views will be from western North America, Hawaii, South Asia, Australia & South America. The total eclipse, when the moon appears to turn red, will begin at 3:11 a.m. and end at 3:25 a.m. Pacific Time.
Astrology: This will affect mutable signs, namely Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces. - Annular Solar Eclipse in Gemini on June 10th
This eclipse is visible from northern and northeastern North America, beginning at 4:12 AM EDT and ending at 9:11 AM EDT. You should only view this eclipse using eye protection such as ones with a solar filter or eclipse glasses.
Astrology: This will once again affect Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces most significantly. - Partial Lunar Eclipse in Taurus on November 19th
It can be witnessed from much of Europe & Asia, North Africa, West Africa, much of North America, and the Arctic.
