The Best Fall Vacation Getaways

Fall is a great season to travel since the weather tends to be cooler and prices go down. Now is the time to get away for the weekend, whether it be to enjoy some fall foliage or just take a quick trip before the busy holiday season begins. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation, there are quite a few fall getaways to choose from.

Munich

One of the most popular reasons why travelers go to Munich in the fall is for Oktoberfest. This sixteen-day festival features beer, carnival rides and Bavarian food. It’s such a popular event that available hotel rooms become more and more scarce the closer it gets to the time of the festival.  You can also enjoy the changing of the leaves while shopping at the local market while on a Germany vacation.

Paris

Really, who doesn’t love Paris in the fall? The weather is cooler and it’s a lot less crowded. Some of the more popular attractions don’t have long waits and you can easily find a table at your favorite café or an inexpensive hotel room.  Walk along the riverfront and you’ll find street stalls roasting chestnuts.  Gardens display the beautiful change of the seasons. Starting in October, many shops and restaurants celebrate the wine harvest. Mackinac Island

Visitors to Mackinac island in the Straits of Mackinac (pronounced MACK-in-naw), between the Upper and Lower peninsulas about 285 mi/460 km north of Detroit, can step back in time. Autos may have made Michigan’s fortune, but they’re banned from this island—horse-drawn carriages, saddle horses, bicycles and walking are the only means of transportation. Chicago

Plane tickets to Chicago can be expensive, but during the fall, it’s not hard to find inexpensive flights. It’s a great time of year to visit Chicago before the blustery winter months begin. From Music and food festivals like the Bon Appetit Gourmet event to Whiskey and Beer festivals, there is plenty to do in Chicago in the months of September and October.

New York City
Almost any time is a good time to go to New York City, but we love going during the fall months simply because of Central Park. The trees are beautiful as they prepare for winter to strip them of their leaves. Travelers can often get an amazing hotel for a fraction of the price that they would spend in the winter or summer. There is so much to do we could dedicate an entire blog for just New York.  For example, the Bronx night markets are open through the end of October.  Fashion week, Oktoberfest, Atlantic Antic, Photoville, the NY Wine & Food Festival, NY Coffee Festival, NY Pizza Festival & Comic Con are all in the fall.  The ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center opens to the public in early October. Buenos Aires
During the fall months in the U.S. it’s actually spring in Buenos Aires. One of the best reasons to go to this city during this time of year are the roses. Over 1,000 different rose species are in bloom and tourists can go on the Rose Garden Walk to see them all.

Vancouver
In the fall the trees are changing and the city has a whole new look in Vancouver. Both local and tourists flock to the international film festival. The city is a great place to take a 3-4 day getaway without spending a lot of money.

Boston
You can feel fall in the air, literally in Boston. The cool weather is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors and explore the city. Go apple picking. Enjoy the changing of the leaves while walking the Freedom Trail.  Stroll through Boston Common with over 700 oak, beach, maple, elm and chestnut trees, the fall colors are amazing!  Art Festivals, JP Music festival, Columbus Day Parade, enjoy a cruise along the Charles River, take a pub tour.
