Pixar “Brave” Movie Inspires Travel to Scotland

It’s not every day that I can combine two passions (movies and travel,) in one article, and today is one of those lucky days with the release of the new movie Brave.   The Highlands of Scotland have a history of epic battles and mystical legends. The main character, Merida, who is a skilled archer, confronts tradition and challenges destiny to change her fate.

VisitScotland has launched a global campaign alongside the movie in the hopes of increasing visitors.  The campaign includes a new website, and TV advertising. It will be the first commercial for Scotland in the U.S. in over 10 years. As part of the campaign there will also be a 4 day trip to Scotland given away. Scotland Properties (Connoisseurs Scotland) will be taking full advantage of the upcoming Disney Pixar movie “Brave,” and aiming to place a surprise spin on their amenities by including an archery program appropriate for adults and children. One of Connoisseurs five star properties Cameron House on Lock Lomond, for example is set on 100 acres of woodland located 20 minutes from Glasgow Airport – talk about a hit with bringing children and adults like me obsessed with films such as The Hunger Games, The Avengers, & upcoming Brave to a place like this with archery classes to boot!

Archery lessons will take place within a walled garden for guest aged 7 & older. As for the groups (as I like to call grown-ups), the property features a spa, golf, and marina. Rates for the archery classes are $70.00 per adult and $39.00 for children 16 & under. Visitcameronhouse.co.uk.  The Gleneagles, which is slightly larger than the Cameron House and is expected to host the Ryder Cup in 2014 is offering classes for $81.00 for 45 minutes and an extra $33.00 for each additional participant (up to 5 in a group). Visit www.gleneagles.com.

Adventures by Disney family tours also released a trip that coincides with the movie called Scotland: A Brave Adventure. This fun filled family adventure visits Edinburgh, Inverness, Loch Ness, Isle of Lewis and Isle of Skye. Step between the mysterious standing stones just as Merida does on her journey in Brave, ride Highland ponies, tour Glamis Castle and take a private archery lesson. See Dunnottar Castle, which inspired Merida’s home in the movie, Black House of Arnol, which inspired the witch’s house and plenty more amazing places in Scotland.  The tour is available March, June, July and August 2013.
