Cinco De Mayo, May 5, Mexico

This might just be the most well-known festival on the list. Cinco De Mayo celebrates Mexico’s victory over France in 1862. While this festival is only technically one day, there are events that last throughout the month of May that include concerts and dances as well as art exhibitions. Mawazine, May 20-28, Morocco

This somewhat controversially event takes place in Rabat. It attracts more than 2 million people, which is about 3 times the population of the city itself. This festival was created in 2001 as a way to promote Morocco as being more liberal than some other countries in the Middle East. The event features over 100 concerts and past big-name artists have included Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones. There are also a lot of up and coming artists in attendance as well who are hoping to get their “big break”.

Sasquatch!, May 27-30, Washington

Head over to Quincy, Washington over Memorial Day weekend to enjoy good music at a beautiful, natural amphitheater. This festival started in 2002 as a way to promote the local music market. Each year dozens of artists perform for a crowd of about 20,000 people. This event is so popular that tickets often sell out within a few hours of going on sale.

Stars Of The White Nights, May 27- July 31, Russian Federation

Located in St. Petersburg, the Stars Of The White Nights festivals is so huge that it lasts for over two months. It includes basically everything related to culture and the arts. From film, ballet, opera and music, attendees can see a wide genre of performances. There’s also a fireworks show that features red sailed ships and a lot of energy. In addition to the art there are one of a kind performers like fire eaters and sword swallowers.
