The Most Haunted Places In The Caribbean
Some have said that the Caribbean is the most haunted place in the world and is filled with restless ghosts. Countries in the Caribbean tend to be full of histories and spirits. Each of the countries listed below are some of the most haunted places in the Caribbean.
Jamaica
The country of Jamaica is filled with many haunted cities. The port city of Port Royal used to be known as the Earth’s wickedest city. Many people have reported seeing ghosts in this area at night. It’s no wonder as the city was destroyed in 1692 by an earthquake that killed many people. One of the most well-known ghosts haunts Montego Bay’s Rose Hall Great House. The spirit of Annie Palmer used to be a devious mistress. She murdered three different husbands, practiced voodoo and poisoned her slaves. The Rose Hall has been renovated and brave visitors can go on a tour of it. Visitors have reported hearing spirit children crying, a ghost riding a black horse and bloodstains suddenly appearing on the floor. Browse Jamaica vacation packages.
Barbados
The most mystifying ghost story in Barbados deals with the Chase Crypt located in Christ Church. A cruel father named Thomas Chase buried his two daughters in the crypt after they each died at a young age. After Thomas passed way in 1812 and the crypt was opened to put his coffin in, those present noticed that the two coffins of the girls appeared to have been violently thrown across the room. Chalking it up to vandals, the crypt was then mortared shut. However, each time the crypt was open during the next several years the coffins seem to have been moved again. Other family members felt that the spirits of the two girls could not stand having their bodies in the same place as their mean father so they were the ones responsible for moving them. The family then chose to bury the girls and their father is separate places to put an end to the coffins being moved and allow the girls to rest in peace. Browse Barbados vacation packages.
Puerto Rico
The Hotel El Convento, located in Old San Juan, is thought to be haunted. The hotel is a former convent and the founder of the convent, Doña Ana de Lansos y Menéndez de Valdez and some of her nuns are supposedly the spirits behind the hauntings. Guests have reported hearing the sounds of nuns robes swishing on the floors as the spirits of the nuns roam about. Despite being haunted, this hotel is one of the most luxurious ones in Puerto Rico and a popular place for travelers to stay.
Haiti
The county of Haiti is often referred to as the voodoo capital of the world. There have been quite a few ghost sightings that have occurred in this country. One of the most disturbing ones happened in the city of Port-au-Prince where individuals nearby the City Cemetery saw corpses limping about.
