Best Burgers in America

Many of us are pretty health-conscious, and probably make smart, sensible choices when going out to eat. You might choose the salad or a broth-based soup, ask for steamed veggies in lieu of fries, and may even skip dessert unless it’s a special occasion. Sometimes, though, you might just want to sink your teeth into a juicy, all-American burger. Whether you prefer yours in the basic hold-the-mustard style, or you like yours piled high with all sorts of interesting toppings, a good burger is something that can really hit the spot when you’re really hungry. Here are a few of the best burgers in America to consider trying the next time you’re out and about:

  • ShackBurger, Shake Shack, New York City  The ShackBurger has been listed as one of the best burgers in the U.S.A. by Food and Wine. It consists of black angus beef topped with lettuce, tomato and American cheese, served in a grilled potato bun. There’s also a generous slather of the secret Shacksauce. One of the great things about the Shake Shack is that they are very active in fundraising for local cultural and neighborhood organizations, so you can feel good about supporting this company.

  • The Primetime, Hopdoddy Burger Bar, Austin, Texas  Hopdoddy’s is a bar that serves a great burger, says The Thrillist. One of the favorites is the Primetime, which is made from richly marbled Akaushi beef, and topped with Brie cheese, truffle aioli, caramelized onions, arugula and steak sauce. Wash it down with one of twelve local beers served at the tavern, or perhaps a big glass of sweet tea and lemonade with a kick of vodka.

  • The Hamburg Burger, Burger Stand at the Casbah, Lawrence, Kansas  In the college town of Lawrence, the Burger Stand is a favorite among the students, residents and visitors alike. The burgers are a blend of ground ribeye, tenderloin and strip steak, and they’re topped in a wide variety of ways. If you are looking for something a bit German, try the Hamburg Burger, which features homemade mustard and relish along with braised red cabbage.

  • Five Guys, various parts of America  Some chains just know how to do burgers right, and one of those is Five Guys. Located all over the country, Five Guys is a favorite not only for their burgers, but for their large sacks of Cajun-seasoned fries as well as the complimentary peanuts that are served while customers wait for their food. The chain offers fifteen free toppings, so you can try a different combination each time.

The best burgers in America are largely a matter of opinion, of course, and there are dozens, if not hundreds, of out-of-this world burgers being sold, eaten and enjoyed in every corner of the country.
