During this unprecedented time when we should stay indoors to remain safe, it’s good to know we can still hang out with friends online to catch up on movies and TV shows!
What was that? Even though I’m home, I can still hang out with my friends online and watch movies and TV shows while practicing social distancing from our respective homes? That’s right! And if you’re wondering how to watch movies and TV shows online with friends, keep reading…
Let’s have a NETFLIX PARTY!!
Even though you can feel free to use it like I did in the sentence above, Netflix Party is actually an app you can use to have, well, a Netflix Party with your friends and/or loved ones. The only caveat is that the app only works with the Chrome browser, so don’t try to make it work with Mozilla or Microsoft Edge. Having to use Chrome means that everyone is going to be forced to huddle around their computers to watch.
Here’s how Netflix Party works:
1). Download Netflix Party HERE. (Remember, you’ll need to be on Chrome)
2). Once you’ve added the extension to Chrome, install it by clicking the Install Button.
3). Now that you have officially installed the Netflix Party extension onto Chrome, pull up Netflix (you guessed it…) on Chrome, sign in and play a video!
4). Next is creating your Netflix Party and it’s super easy… Since you installed Netflix Party, an icon automatically installed itself on the top of your screen (NP), simply click the icon and start the party. Once you click the “start the party” button, a url will appear; copy it and send it to your friends – done! The chatroom will appear on the right side of the screen. From there, you’ll be able to see when someone joins the party.
Note… Now, you can have full control or not, it’s totally up to you; however, keep in mind everyone in the party must have the Netflix Party extension installed in order to attend.
To join an existing Netflix Party:
- Click on the link.
- Click on the Netflix Party icon.
Let’s have a Disney+ Party!!
As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, ever since Disney introduced their Disney Plus streaming product, Disney movies and shows have been dropping like flies from other streaming services like Netflix… Well, now you can perpetrate your own Disney Plus Party, pretty much the same way you did with Netflix.
And on that subject, you’ll also need to know a couple things… A). You’ll need to be on Chrome here as well, cause without it, the party won’t start. B). The extension isn’t FREE. That’s right! In case you didn’t know, Disney+ is charging $2.99 to download the extension onto your Chrome browser. That said and if you’re still interested, click HERE to obtain the extension you’ll need to install on Chrome.
Tip: If you don’t mind the fee, TWOSEVEN’s Patreon perks are currently available for $3 a month which means you can use both Disney+ and Hulu along with YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, HBO & Vimeo.

What’s a party without the ability to chat?
We’re all talking about being able to have Netflix and Disney parties, but what about the talking over the movie on the couch part? Whether you’re with friends or family, there’s always that moment on the couch when one of us begins to talk over the movie whether it be about our day or a scene about to come on! Well, even though we’re practicing social distancing, there is an app that works alongside Netflix that provides the ability to chat textually and/or visually while watching the movie.
SCENER!!
This is by far the most exciting part about having an online movie party with friends, because Scener provides us all with the normalcy we need during these unprecedented times! What does that mean? For one you can live video chat and/or text while watching the movie and it seats up to TEN people! It’s like having an entire living room of friends talking smack, laughing or yelling before, during or after a scene. It just knocks the entire experience out of the park.
Once again, this app only works with Netflix, it’s totally free and you can get it – only on Chrome. So here’s the scoop on getting Scener:
1). Click HERE. (Remember, you have to be on Chrome when clicking or else you’ll have to cut & paste the url on Chrome).
2). Click the “Add To Chrome” button & add extension.
3). Bring up Netflix & sign in.
4). Upon choosing the video you want, a Scener banner will appear asking you to either create a Scener account or to sign in.
5). To create an account, you’ll obviously need a Netflix account, must use primary account & must be located in the US of A. Choose an email address, username & password.
6). Once you create your Scener account, pick a profile photo – choose your best selfie or Instagram account.
7). Last, but not least, create a private group by clicking on the “create a private group” button and typing in a group name. Once that’s done, copy the url address provided by Scener and email/text it to your friends. Done!
Scener has a virtual remote control you can pass between friends. Whoever has it gets to control what you and your friends are watching, rewind, or pause and play the movie or TV show, like an actual remote control.
