A passport can tell a lot about a traveler. It’s a record of where they began and where their life’s journey has taken them. Many travelers may not realize that passports vary greatly depend on the country that it originated at. Check out the differences in these passports from various countries throughout the world.
Taiwan
The passports from Taiwan are green and feature numbers that are stamped on the cover. These number match the passport holder’s National Identity Card Number. So basically no two passports are alike in Taiwan.
Russia
The passports in Russia have changed over the past 15 years. The cover now features a Russian crest that is a double-headed eagle. As of 2006 new passports became biometric which is becoming quite common with many other countries throughout the world
Nigeria
Passports from Nigeria are quite detailed. There is a coat of arms that has a black shield, two white horses, and an eagle. These all represent fertile soil, dignity and strength. Around the base of it there is the national motto of Nigeria, “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress”. There is also the national flower of Nigeria scattered around it.
Brazil
The newest version of the passport in Brazil was introduced last year. It is dark blue in color and there are five stars strategically arranged around the cover. These stars represent the constellation, The Southern Cross.
Canada
In Canada there are quite a few passport types that all have a different color. A regular passport has a navy cover, a special passport has a green cover, a temporary passport has a white cover and a diplomatic passport has a maroon cover. The Arms of Canada is featured on all of the passports.
United States
Do you know what a passport from the United States looks like? If you are a frequent traveler you might have seen many versions of it throughout the years. Before 1976 they had green covers, but were changed to blue covers to celebrate the bicentennial celebrations. From April 1993 until March 1994 the covers were changed back to green and had a tribute inside to Benjamin Franklin. Today’s passports that are being issued are currently blue. They also feature natural and historical scenes related to the U.S. and it’s history in them.
