It may be springtime here, but if you’re missing the fall weather, you can experience autumn all over again by traveling to the land down under. Sydney, Australia, often called the Harbour City, is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful cities not just in Australia, but in the world. Fall in Australia begins in March and lasts until the end of May, and the mild temperatures (around 72 degrees Fahrenheit on average) make it a wonderful time to explore the city’s beauty and the outdoor attractions that the city has to offer. If you’re going to be visiting Sydney during their fall season, here are a few things you’ll want to do while you’re there.
- Take a Sydney Harbour Cruise. Sydney Harbour is the area’s largest natural harbor. The Harbour, like the city itself, is known for its beauty, and it’s an excellent place to take a short cruise. You can take a dinner cruise by catamaran that lasts three hours and provides a buffet with fresh seafood, excellent sightseeing, and awesome photo opportunities. Another option is Sydney Showboats, a three hour paddle-wheeler cruise that includes a magic show followed by a three course meal and a live cabaret show. It’s a spectacular night on the town that just happens to be on the water.
- Visit the Taronga Zoo. If you’re interested in the native wildlife in Australia, you’ll definitely want to spend some time exploring this zoo. You’ll be able to hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies and take photographs of koalas. You can take a small group tour led by a professional zoo keeper for a tour of the zoo kitchen and an up-close-and-personal look at the Australian Nocturnal House. Then take a ride in the Sky Safari gondolas where you’ll get an aerial view of both the zoo and the harbor area.
- Visit the Hunter Valley Wineries. Hunter Valley is the oldest wine producing region in Sydney. You can take a tour of the region through Sydney Wilderness Tours. You’ll travel early in the morning with a small group in a luxury Mercedes Benz minibus that will stop first at a cafe where you can grab breakfast or a cup of coffee. You’ll visit a total of five wineries, and at each of these you’ll be able to sample five or six different Hunter Valley wines. In between the third and fourth winery, you’ll stop for lunch at the Hunter Resort, and after the last winery, you’ll round out the day with visits to the Smelly Cheese Shop or the Cheese Factory and the Hunter Valley Chocolate Shop.
- Starlight Cinema: Outdoor films are available through March. You can bring your own picnic basket or order pizza delivered to your seat.
- Royal Easter Show: Sydney’s version of our State fairs. From March 21st through April 3rd you can enjoy carnival rides, shop for fresh produce, see over 14,000 animals on exhibit and enjoy hours of free entertainment.
